About BETH BRANNING
Beth Branning is the former chief strategy officer and corporate director of vision, innovation and strategy at San Diego Zoo Global (SDZG). The SDZG strategic planning process she developed received the 2013 Association for Strategic Planning (ASP) Goodman Award – the top international prize for strategic planning innovation and implementation.
For 15 years, Beth oversaw the major planning efforts not only at SDZG, but for dozens of their collaborators, partners, and projects. Many of Beth’s “clients” during this time were endangered animals in desperate need of their own worldwide conservation strategies, including elephants, koalas, giant pandas, desert tortoises, and others. She helped multi-organizational groups collaborate to save wildlife, from the County of San Diego to the continent of Australia. Beth also oversaw the strategic planning efforts for many nonprofit associations, including the American Alliance of Museums, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership, the Informal Science Learning Consortium, and others.
Beth has a degree in Journalism with a dual emphasis in Public Relations and Advertising and is also certified as a Strategic Management Professional (SMP), which is the top certification offered by the Association for Strategic Planning (ASP). She has served on both the local and international boards for the Association of Strategic Planning (ASP), most recently as the chair of the International Marketing and Membership Committee. She has received the distinguished Janice Laureen award for outstanding leadership and guidance from ASP, as well as awards of excellence from the American Alliance of Museums, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the YWCA, and Athena San Diego.
